Mrs. Petty
Mrs. Dawn Petty (Read 180 Teacher) began her teaching career in 2002, after graduating from San Jose State University. She came to Barrett Elementary, after beginning her teaching career at Randol Elementary in San Jose, California. Mrs. Petty has taught 1st Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. "I truthfully enjoy being instrumental in the children’s learning. I want to be an important part of making their environment safe, engaging and encouraging. I am truly excited about teaching Read 180. This program fills an important need for our struggling students!”
Mrs. Petty grew up in Salinas, California as Dawn Lafleur. She moved to Hollister, California in 1985, where she met and married her husband, Dave Petty in 1989. Her professional career began outside of academia including managing restaurants during her early years. Also, she ran a successful manufacturing business with her husband Dave for approximately 9 years. They built parts for equipment in the computer and aerospace industries. They sold the business in late 2,000.
Dawn has been married to her husband Dave for 27 years. She loves dogs, especially her Labradors. “We have two dogs, a Chocolate Labrador, his name is Kahlua and a Red Labrador his name is Anejo. They keep us very busy and entertained.” She is also an avid golfer, who is active in a variety of golfing groups. Dave also enjoys golfing and traveling. Every available vacation is spent playing at different destinations. "In my spare time I enjoy reading, golfing and exploring new educational sites on the Internet.”
